The Environmental & Permitting Specialist provides support related to the environmental and permitting activities of early and advanced development stage renewable energy projects, as well as projects under construction. The Environmental & Permitting Specialist position will also support the potential acquisition or sale of such projects and will coordinate teams of consultants and internal resources to effectively and efficiently guide the projects through the environmental study and permitting process
About the role
- Responsible for monitoring the national and regional permitting process of wind/solar farms.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers at local and national levels with the goal of fostering productive and ethical relationships with permitting authorities.
- Conduct environmental and permitting due diligence on potential greenfield or acquisition opportunities.
- Develop environmental study and permitting strategies for specific projects in consultation with internal resources, such as the Legal, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Finance, Investment Analysis and Energy Assessment teams.
- Prepare milestone schedule and budget requirements to complete environmental studies and permitting for projects.
- Manage and coordinate efficient civil and environmental permitting of projects using both internal and external resources.
- Manage preparation of permit applications to agencies, represent Finerge in hearings and proceedings, and maintain documentation of the process and conditions for all permits.
- Coordinate with the Construction and Asset Management & Operations teams to ensure permit compliance of projects.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a documentation plan regarding civil and environmental permit compliance for operating renewable energy facilities.
The individual
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 2 – 5 years demonstrated experience with permitting and environmental compliance for energy projects.
- Experience with renewables projects.
- Experience in local and national policy development a plus.
- Technical knowledge of biodiversity concerns relating to operations of wind and solar power projects preferred.
- Technical knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory requirements relating to development, construction, and operations of energy projects.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software; some knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software mandatory.
